By definition, responsible tourism consist of the development and application of management tools that aim to minimize the negative impact of touristic activities and increment the benefits for the local population. Some of these tools include: certificates handed out to businesses that fulfil certain social, economical and/or environmental conditions; social responsibility policies adopted and implemented by a business; ethical codes as a less formal but more accessible option; or the development of sustainable tourism practices.
The Capetown Declaration (2002) illustrates the basic concepts of the idea of responsible tourism and is effected, among others, by the International Center For Responsible Tourism of the Metropolitan University of Leeds.
Sustainable Policies
In Terrace Lodge, we are aware of the fragile environment we live in, and as an operator we see the importance to act as an agent of change, improvement and development for the tourism in the region of Putre.
This is why we are dedicated to offer highest quality standards and fulfill the prerequisites to work and move in the places we do. We respect the given rules and aim to sustainably develop under the following principles:
- Respecting the local community, especially the native people, and offering equal labor opportunities to community members without any discrimination.
- Stimulating the local economy, favorizing local providers.
- Taking care of the natural resources by making efficient use of water and energy and predominantly using materials that do not negatively affect the environment.
- Combating exploitation of any human being, especially sexual exploitation and exploitation of minors.
- Minimizing waste and practicing responsible waste management.
- Restore, conserve and protect the natural ecosystems and the native biodiversity.
We want to encourage responsible and eco-travel, and we support our travelers in making this same decision. Please protect the places you visit. Terrace Lodge aims to leave the smallest possible impact on the environment, and we kindly ask for your collaboration.
